Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a video resume and a video profile?
Strictly speaking, a video resume would
replace a traditional resume, while a video profile is designed as a suplimentary material. Although there a quite a bit of hype about video resumes, a good "paper" resume does a much more efficient job at presenting factual information.
The video profile, on the other hand, is a brief and to-the-point introduction that shows the person behind the application. This introduction should convey intangible qualities such as a candidate's passion for their career, communication skills, and professional demeanor.
How can people see my profile page?
Your profile will be viewable on a special page at a custom URL. This page is designed to be simple and professional, without any advertising or distracting graphics.
I have done my video profile and I have the URL link. Now what?
We have created a page about online applications.
Click here to view these tips.
Your video profile should also be become a key part of your professional online "identity." One of the best
locations for a link is on your profile at
LinkedIn.com. If you're not
on LinkedIn, you are missing a key opportunity; HR professionals, recruiters, and hiring managers
use this site at various stages of the hiring process.
For networking purposes, make sure you email everyone you know with the link to the video. It is an excellent conversation starter, and can easily be forwarded from person to person to help market you!
A professional blog is another great location for a video profile link. Remember, the stronger your
online presence, the more you will stand out among your peers in the job market. Because video resumes
are a relatively new tool, this is a unique advantage for you. As we view "hit" statistics on our site,
we have found that often many more people within a corporation have viewed a video profile than the
original recipients. People viewing a good video resume often send the link around in their corporate
email!
I did a video resume with CW31. Why should I do one with Video Profile (and pay for it)?
You do get what you pay for. And with CW31, you "pay" by having advertising appear before your video--and with a take-it-or-leave-it approach necessary to tape up to 300 people in a single event.
If you haven't had the results you were looking forward to with CW31, take a look at how our system compares:
Description | CW31 | VideoProfile.tv |
| Video available online within 3 business days? | | |
| Free? | | |
| Ad-free videos? | | |
| Employer will see "competing" candidates? | | |
| Quiet studio environment? | | |
| Coaching and scripting? | | |
| Multiple takes? | | |
| Teleprompter? | | |
| Personal profile page/link for one-click view? | | |
What will an employer see on my page?
The video profile page is designed to feature your video, with no distracting content. There are no advertisements
or additional graphics to take away from your message. Additionally, the page will show your name, general location,
industry, desired position, and a brief description of the content of your video.
This profile page is customizable, including privacy options, in your online control panel.
Can I make my profile private?
Yes. You may put a passcode on your profile page. Anyone wishing to view it must have the passcode.
What's HR's viewpoint on video resumes/profiles?
Contrary to common belief, human resource professionals are not inherently opposed to video resumes or
many other "Web 2.0" channels of information between candidates and companies (such as Googling a candidate's name).
The challenge, though, is to manage and measure these activities to ensure fairness. In effect, a video
resume reveals the optional "self-select" information on many job applications: ethnicity, age range,
etc. This information is simply available at an earlier stage of the HR process than typical. Many HR
departments have already updated their processes to reflect not only video resumes, but other "social"
media on the internet.
Should I include a link to my video profile on my resume?
The answer: it depends. As the job candidate, you and only you are responsible for determining the
appropriate information to include in a job application. If in doubt, contact the HR department of
the hiring company for any answer.
I'm having trouble downloading or viewing a video. What do I do?
Please see
this page for help. Most likely you will need to update your Adobe Flash player.
Can I upload my own video file to this site?
We have tested this and have decided not to offer this service. To ensure consistent quality, we are a "studio-centric" rather than "webcentric" business.
